After having graduated from high school, Turkish-Israeli artist Elsa Ers Brosh, moved to Paris to complete her studies, where she obtained her BFA from Parsons School of Design in Paris (2005) and an additional BA from the Sorbonne (2007) on French Language and Civilization. After another two years in Istanbul where she tried her hand in textiles following the traditions of her family, she moved to Tel Aviv, where she currently lives and works. Her first series, which compromises of traditional techniques of painting, drawing and printmaking, along with experimental surface treatments that were inspired by her years working as a textile designer and craftsman, evolves around such themes of belonging, home, and cultural identity.

Bosh's current work attempts to deconstruct the Middle Eastern female identity through the viewpoint of women. The female figure, a recurrent subject matter for Brosh, is taken out of context, cropped out, and closed in – a reference to the condition of women in Middle Eastern countries. Her work is deeply intertwined with gender identity and what it means to be human and female in the Middle East. Her hyper-realistic paintings explore themes of identity, otherness, and belonging through a personal and multicultural perspective. Brosh creates complex visual compositions that combine a satirical viewpoint with a personal interpretation of universal themes such as visibility and femininity. In her recent works, she focuses on the influence of digital culture and the ways in which private experiences are interwoven into the visual and virtual landscape, shaping contemporary identity.

She currently lives in Tel Aviv with her family, drawing inspiration from the city’s multicultural landscape and vibrant urban energy. Her paintings have been exhibited in Israel and Europe.
